Retro ads are fun to watch but this ad for P&O Ferries (starts at 1:33 in this video) is so good it looks like it could have been filmed today. What I really like about this video from P&O Ferries is that it makes me want to go to all those beautiful and quaint places. It makes me feel relaxed and fresh. I want to drive down to the port in Dover and drive on to the P&O Ferries there and cross to Calais so I can just drive around and enjoy the day in France, tasting lots of French goodies in little out-of-the way cafes. Then I want to head over to Zeebrugge and check out some Belgium goodies and see the beauty along the way
Eventually, I may meet someone new that makes me want to hang around for a few days and get to know them better. This could be the beginning of a brand new friendship. I may then drive onto the P&O Ferries towards Rotterdam to check out what the Netherlands has to offer. Always interesting and historical things to see and do along the way. When I have finished traversing the various nooks and crannies of The Netherlands, Belgium and France, I will board another one of the P&O Ferries back toward the UK, or, who knows, maybe on to Spain or Ireland for more exotic foods, people and histories.
P&O Ferries gives me the flexibility to take my vehicle and check out what's out there. Those of us who have lived in the United States of America all our lives take for granted the ability to hop in your car and go where you want to go, even driving for days at a time, thousands of miles. I wonder if you would begin to feel claustrophobic living on an island with so many people and so few miles to travel before hitting water. On the other hand, there is all the romance of travelling through such historic places. P&O Ferries gives a great line at the end of this 1988 commercial: "Why sail the English Channel when you can cruise it?" I do wish that I lived in the UK and could just take a weekend to use P&O Ferries and check out all these great destinations.
